Art of Protest Celebrates Five Years!

What a wild ride it has been - from opening our gallery doors on Little Stonegate to putting up jaw dropping street art on city walls, delivering bustling events and celebrating artists globally - we continue to thrive and make our message clear: art should be accessible for all and the world can become its gallery.

Words from Jeff...

It’s been an incredible journey...from launching Art of Protest Gallery with Craig Humble to parting ways and growing out the Art of Protest Projects team and creating a new path full of exciting projects and avenues. AOP Projects has made genuine differences to people’s lives through the language of art, which we manage to speak to everyone, with no voice unheard. We want to continue this journey helping to revolutionise places and spaces through the vehicle of art. A massive thank you to everyone who has been a part of the journey - artists, clients, friends, family and the amazing people across the globe that celebrate our cause.

On reflection, we look back to some key moments in AOP’s five years of existence…

- YEAR ONE -

From LA to York! York’s largest piece of public art was delivered and with it, we saw the joining of two very different cities with an injection of edge into a place that had never seen or experienced it before.

- YEAR TWO -

AOP’s First Birthday Party - We celebrated our rotation around the sun by throwing an amazing event featuring a sold out solo show by urban artist leader Prefab77. The party spilled onto the streets with incredible beats, fire performers, local partners and lots of dancing!

- YEAR THREE -

Three years ago marked a pivotal point as Jeff and Craig parted ways and Art of Protest Projects was born. The gallery relocated to Walmgate where it still flourishes today, and AOP Projects saw a different avenue and path unfold, despite an emerging pandemic. From this, the Location X team formed to deliver an incredible experience at The Malthouse - something we and our patrons won’t soon forget!

- YEAR FOUR -

As the doors to the world began to shut, we knocked our heads together to devise a way to continue shouting loudly, and putting our energy into the world in the best possible way by launching Guardians of York with The Postman and The York BID. We are still so proud of this project, which honoured key workers through the vehicle of urban art.

- YEAR FIVE -

We continue to flourish and grow and are busier than ever behind the scenes, gearing up to deliver something MASSIVE...Think NEW LOCATIONS, WORLD CLASS ARTISTS, BIG WALL TAKEOVERS, TALENT DEVELOPMENT, INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS, AMAZING EVENTS!

Stay tuned to learn more…we can’t wait to reveal all the details about our biggest project to date!

We have delivered so many other exciting projects - some big, some small - but all important for a variety of reasons. We have felt the shared excitement and grief of the world around us during what has been an insane few years. We feel stronger and more capable than ever to keep fighting the good fight and delivering our message through the wonderful world of art.

XOXO, The AOP Projects Team
